The lunch

The lunch

Went to Lemon Garden Cafe in Shangri-La for a post-Christmas pre-New Year meet-up buffet lunch. The usual high school gang minus one Miss Lim who's berseronoking in Japan. Plus some new 'additions' like our 2 lovely chaperones, Wai Ee's mum and aunt.

I was running late going to Wai Ee's house (sorry about that, girl =p) and I forgot to take my camera. Damn. And I spent ages uploading and trying to clear those 2 memory cards earlier on. Double damn. So whatever pictures posted here will be from Wai Ee. I haven't asked Sueh Lung and Andrew for any because I think that they'll have problems sending the files, due to the poor internet connection.

So anyway, Wai Ee drove us to KL and we arrived there at 12 noon.

And guess what?
Nobody else was there!
True blue Malaysian friends.

Except Kah Yang who was already there.
Oops...sorry. Hehe.

So it looks like I'm not the only one who ran late. The rest were being faithful followers of the very oh-so-renowned Malaysian timing. ;)

Wai Ee, her mum and her aunt, Sook and I decided to start first because the table was reserved for us at 12 noon and it would have been bad form if it was a total no-show at the reserved time. At least 5/12 not bad, what?

First up was the appetizer section with salmon, oysters, mussels, 'high-class lala's', huge prawns, crabs and some cold meat thing which I couldn't name. I gave up halfway on the prawn because I was too lazy to mutilate it further. =p

Toddled off to the Italian and Chinese section. Pizza, risotto, lasagne and halal dim sum. Than it was the Western section where the girls laughed because I came back to the table holding a huge plate with only 2 pieces of food on it. We also had 2 plates of some scallop and other stuff cooked Chinese-style specially cooked by the chef.

Wanted to try their croissants but I didn't like the soup and I felt it'd be a lil weird eating just croissants during lunch. I wanted to sample the bread sticks too but I wasn't sure if it was for decoration or for eating. I mean, Lemon Garden is decorated with foodstuffs like jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. So I definitely didn't want to commit a major faux pas by munching on the decor. Haha.

Told ya it was all decorated with food. And that brown thing is the chocolate fountain.
If you look at the right hand side, you can see the bread sticks. Do you think they were meant for consumption or for decor?

Mich, Sook and I managed to try every single type of cheese available there! Haha. All in all, there were 14 types. Not bad eh? Oh, and Sook, when Michelle and I say tiny piece, we mean really miniscule portion. Nothing bigger. Just in case we can't finish eat than we wouldn't be wasting too much would we? =p

Sampled a bit of each but with 14 types, the taste kinda runs together. But I'm definitely no a fan of overly strong/bitter cheese.

The trick to eating buffets is to sample a bit of everything, than go back a second round and pick which one you really like. And if you really want to eat a lot, don't let your food settle down and expand but keep on eating. Something I've learned from past buffets. ;)

Oh and finally, my favourite part of the meal, desserts!
I could live on their desserts alone...

I love eating buffets with other people because you get to try more things. Michelle and I decided to eat smart and split the desserts.

I absolutely love the chocolate cakes there and I totally adore those tiny tartlets. We did have a spot of trouble halving the desserts as they were kinda small. But, good things come in small packages.

It was, ooh...fantasmiclicious!
Mmmm...

Their bread-and-butter pudding was a bit disappointing. It wasn't warm enough and it was a bit soggy. I prefer my pudding with a bit more crust. I also stayed clear of those trifles and lovely looking things in tiny transparent cups. A delight to see, not necessary a delight to eat.

Something else I've learnt is, when in doubt, ask the waiter/waitress nicely what the item is. Very often, it saves you from eating something you wouldn't wanna eat and a load of embarassment too.

I've always enjoyed their chocolate mousse which comes in a cup topped with chocolate flakes. Unfortunately the last 2 times I was there, they didn't have it. How upsetting! =(

This time their chocolate mousse was covered with some sourish thingy which I didn't like at all. Oh, what wouldn't I give for a cup of my chocolate mousse right now...

Lemon Garden is kinda synonymous with a chocolate fountain which is quite an attraction, especially among the kids. My brother had so much fun dipping his sticks into the fountain the last time he was there but he ended up not eating them at all. Hehe. Anyway, I missed out on the choc fountain because I was err, otherwise preoccupied with something else and when I finally decided to go and play with the fountain, they turned it off. Darn!

Oh well, they didn't have those wafers for dipping anyway. I prefer not to dip with marshmallows because they're too sweet and the rest of the sticks like prunes, grapes and strawberries taste kinda weird to me dipped in chocolate.

Snapped some pictures, chit-chatted, and had our coffee/tea. We were the last table to leave and I felt sorry for the poor staff who had to wait for us to get out of there so that they could clean up our table and prepare for dinner. I like this one because everyone's in it. With the exception of Wai Ee's mum and aunt and Rachel who left early.

Headed to the outdoor garden and took more pictures.Hmm...is he trying for the 'Most Pitiful-looking Picture of the Year' or what? I'm still cracking up when I look at this. Haha. This is another favourite. Me, Wai Ee, Sook and Mich.

Lounged around the sofa's settling the bill and presents and whatnot. After making Wai Ee's mum wait pretty long, we left the hotel to hang out at Thiam Beng's place.

Taught the girls how to gin rummy. Oh, I have to say this, Michelle, your brilliant memory or lack of it thereof really amazes me sometimes. And discretion is always the better part of valour. =)

We shall ber-ginrummy during Chinese New Year, ok?

Managed to win most rounds because I've been playing it longer than the rest. Haha. And contrary to what someone slandered me with, I was NOT making up the rules as I went along. I genuinely forgot to tell them a few minor things. =p

The guys were chor dai di-ing and having their own special seating hiearchy. All I could see and hear was people jumping on and off the sofa and some good-natured cursing.

Played a few rounds of chor dai di and we decided to call it a day. Wai Ee was so nice as to fetch me home because I didn't want to totter around in heels and a skirt.

We had a lovely drive home, didn't we? ;)

I can't believe I'm blogging when I should be frantically tearing my hair out at the pathetic state of my studies, especially my accounts and economics. I need to reform. Drastically.
