Berdiri sama tinggi with the big brothers

I just watched 'V for Vendetta'. Man, do I love that show. =)
Its up there with my 'Favourite Movies of 2006.'

Its witty, inspiring and enjoyable. Funny not in a typical popcorn haha movie kind where the hero saves the chick in the nick of time and shoots down 10 AK-47 holding baddies without his styled hair looking unstyled, nor is it the kind where he saves her from a boring, insipid life without his presence by proposing marriage to her. Its also not the kind where he defuses a bomb at the last second saving 234098309 people, just in case you were wondering.

Its the kind that makes you smile and laugh at the very nuances of their dialogue. The thought-provoking kind that keeps your brain spinning even after the credits roll and you're not thinking about how hot that guy is or how chun that chick is, but you're thinking of the idea they're trying to convey, the plot, the storyline. And that's what I call a good show. Though this one was based on a book. Some people may not quite like it, its really up to individual tastes. But if you enjoy witty repartee and thought-jiggling ideas, than go for this one. I just love the words they use.

I watched it on DVD after waiting and wondering if Astro would ever show it. I figured they probably wouldn't show such a show. After all, who knows if it will give us Malaysians ideas like striding up to Parliment in Guy Fawkes masks and dominos and protesting when we're not happy with the government. Except that some of us will probably be waving a keris around and some will be waving the Little Red Book while I don't quite know what the rest will be holding.

Just kidding....
Don't wanna end up in a rat-infested dungeon at such a tender age. ;)

Anyway, God forbid that UK or Malaysia will ever end up like the way they portray in the movie. *shudders*.Where freedom of speech without being detained on some pretext is a precious commodity. Hang on, it is already a precious commodity over here...

I got this from my sister, P & GM : An Ungainly Union?

Go on, click on the link and read it. Its not disguised porn or subversive material that could land you in jail for the next 10 years. Its more like for the next 20 years without any hope of parole. Hehe. Okay, I really am joking only. =)

Its about Proton and General Motors lah. What were you thinking?! =p

To quote what was said,

"They badly need a foreign partner," says John Bonnell, a research analyst at Automotive-Resources Asia.

Thank you so much for telling us that. Its akin to telling us that you need to add flour to make bread. Malaysia's kinda known for piggybacking on other people's technology at an expensive price. Take for example, the space operation. We send Malaysians to space *everybody cheers* on Russian technology *cheering dampens down a bit* at an expensive price *smiles wattage start to reduce* to pour teh tarik and play traditional games in space *scratches head in bewilderment* out of taxpayers money *frowns start appearing* which possibly could have been better utilised for let us say, improvement of healthcare and education *full-blast glares*. That's us Malaysians all right. Russia send one, USA send one, Malaysia also must send one to show that we 'berdiri sama tinggi' with the other 'tai kors' no matter that we're using their technology, eh?

Proton's biggest competition has come from its own backyard. Local carmaker Perodua linked up with Japan's Daihatsu in the early 1990s and allowed Daihatsu to take a 51% controlling stake in 2001.

This isn't called 'gunting dalam selimut'. Its called good strategizing. If you can't do it on your own, don't be a hero and go down guns ablazing. It might look brave but you'll still go down.

Although Proton had a deal with Mitsubishi that enabled it to license Mitsubishi technology, that ended in 2004, when any thought of selling a stake in Proton was still considered too politically sensitive.
Malaysia's probably the only country who bails out national companies/holdings like MAS and Proton in the name of national pride and face. If you got the moolah to do that kinda thing than it wouldn't be so bad, but you're cash-strapped and you wanna go bail a sinking ship. You don't see Singapore or Australia do that, do you? Over there its a case of you sink or you swim. Nobody's gonna throw you a life preserver with a hunky lifeguard and a helicopter to pull your butt out of the red. And SIA is making more money than MAS. Plus most wannabe-pilots in Malaysia probably, note I said probably, head to SIA for job options first. Better salary, better lifestyle.

UBS auto analyst in Kuala Lumpur Colbert Nocom is forecasting a full year loss of $127 million on sales of $1.9 billion.

Whaddaya expect? You give handouts and mollycoddle every single step without teaching independence and it faces problems, limping and barely being able to walk straight. You take away its crutches and stop the handouts and you suddenly expect them to run around leaping and dancing? Take your head out of the clouds and stop dreaming. Every action has an equal and opposing reaction lah, as every Form 5 Physics student can tell you so.

Truth be told, I really am a Malaysian (for those of you who suspected that I'm a foreign sedition-spreading propoganda agent) and I enjoy reading articles like this because it is like a breath of fresh air. Too often, our local sources of news tend to get stiffled by political objectives or for other reasons.

But of late, I'm proud to say that we have been facing up to our shortcomings and the cold facts that we have been putting off for too long. We need to do something about the ailing Proton, no matter who's pet baby project it is. Malaysia is not a bottomless ATM machine that is supposed to be used for things like this. Hopefully, we'll be able to swallow our pride if necessary and for once, do what really benefits the people of the country and not just the face and so-defined pride of the country.

I read in today's papers that other than GM and Volkswagen, Naza is also interested in acquiring a stake in Proton. A Naza-Proton combo? Could this be the face-saver for all parties concerned? We shall see.

Oh and if you're a Malaysian and I have trodden on your sensitive ego and pissed you off, don't take too much offence as I'm just an unknowledgeable idiotic disloyal teenage girl who doesn't know peanuts. It just happens that the article concerned that I was referring to was by BusinessWeek. So look who else rubbed your sensitive ego and pride the wrong way. ;)

Look who's calling a spade, a spade. *mockingly chuckles*
Cheerios, people.
