Cheshire cats & chocolate cake

I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat. *humongous ear-to-ear grin*

Went out for dinner at the Hilton Sentral to celebrate my grandma's b'day. The security guards at the parking area entrance were checking car boots and they also had a metal detector that looked like a crutch with them. At least I think it was a metal detector, cause I don't think they're that sadistic to make an injured guard work with the crutch, right?

I was wondering what event were they having at Hilton that warranted the tight security. My dad said its probably because it would be bad publicity if terrorists bombed the hotel as there are foreigners staying there as its next to KL Sentral which connects to KLIA.

Then I noticed something, the guards were only checking the cars on the left lane and they didn't bother checking cars on the right lane. The guards were just doing it for show! I tell you, if ever a carful of bombs explode in the Hilton, its all the fault of those guards.

As it turns out, I was right. There was an event going on, 'The Great Britain Ball', or something like that. I saw someone in a full kilt, so I guess that passes for formal wear instead of a tuxedo. And I also saw a guy dressed in a Guards uniform (couldn't tell which regiment, but it looks like those that do the Changing of Guards at Buckingham Palace) complete with the bearskin cap. Whee! Hopefully I'll get to see the actual changing of guards next year if I get accepted into my choice of UK universities. Then I'll snap some pics and put it up here.

Anyway, ate dinner at their Chinese restaurant, 'Chynna', and my uncle ordered this set dinner for each of us. I'll give them full marks for presentation and ambience, which was really nice and classy, but the meal wasn't much to shout about, other than the price.=p

Their sharksfin soup wasn't too bad (don't you dare start with the thing about killing sharks), but I've definitely tasted nicer ones before. Try the restaurent opposite the 'Overseas Restaurent' in KL. As for their abalone, I've eaten tastier and more tender ones at a house+restaurent by this chef who goes by the name of Moon.

Sis, if you're reading this, you'll know which place I mean. So while you're in USA eating "chop suey", I'm in M'sia eating abalone and sharksfin. Hehe.

My uncle recommends the 'Iketeru' restaurant which serves really good Japanese food, though its a bit pricey. And because he liked the food there so much, he joined their membership thing. If you join their membership and bring 1 guest to dine there, you get 50% off. I think their membership thing is the same one as Shangri-La's, or they have similarities.

But my aunt says that the chocolate bar near the lobby there isn't that great. For RM38++, you can eat at their choc buffet which includes a choc fountain similar to the one at Shangri-La's 'Lemon Garden Cafe' high-tea. But to think about it, after a few pieces, the chocolatey taste tends to get a bit "jelak" unless you're a really die-hard chocolate fan. So I think I'd rather go for the RM58++ high-tea at Shangri-La where you have a myriad of food to pick from for your appetizers right up to your dessert. Btw, if you go there and there happens to be choc mousse, take it because its seriously so to die for!

See, Wai Ee, I'm such a Shangri-La supporter! Btw, my aunt says 'Lafite' is really good too. So I shall try it out one day.

I hope I've made you all start fantasizing about food right now.

Kah Yang, congratulations!!!

Am I not the epitome of discretion?
Hehe. And I'm smart too. =p

Chocolate cake, any other takers?

Life is so ironic.
And I'm still grinning like a Cheshire cat.
