Hold 'Em or Fold 'Em

Hold 'Em or Fold 'Em

Rolled out of bed this morning with a pounding headache that felt like it was going to surge to the front of my skull and hit my brains with a sledgehammer on maximum. It was like a crescendo thing where you know its just going to get louder and louder and you can't do anything to stop it except crawl back into bed.

"Musn't be late, musn't skip Math."

I chant this solemnly to myself thoughout the whole process of morning ablutions and dressing to stop myself from falling back into bed.

In class, I switch between stoning and trying to decipher an almost illegible scrawl under the harsh lights of the room which reflects on the board and makes it even tougher. Headache reaches mid-crescendo. Clareen does her daily thing of nicking my eraser and making me search for it. Nowadays when I want my eraser, I just ask her for it instead of scrounging under the stuff on my desk for it. Hehe. Today, she goes one up by unattaching my pencil case zip from one of its sides. Sigh, looks like she's really determined to make me use a new pencil box. It gets sadly passed around in hopes of finding someone who can fix it back.

Headache now reaches the zenith of its crescendo. My hungry tummy is emanating sharp pangs of pain. I wish I was back in bed. Thankfully class ends early or I'd have to just give up and fall asleep at my table.

I perk up a little when a deck of cards magically appear. We proceed to teach and learn different card games for a bit when we decide to head over to WH and play. By then, my headaches starts to decrescendo and I don't feel hungry anymore. =p

We play Texas Hold 'Em poker and I win a bit, but not enough to cover yesterday's losses.

Cla and I can't concentrate during class so I draw her 'Siew Yen's basic guide to poker'. Hehe. We bumblingly stumble and mumble our way through class. My headache has somewhat decrescendo-ed to a blob at the back of my head that gives an occasional throb to remind me that it hasn't completely vanished into thin air.

A bunch of us gather around after class but we don't play poker as there were some who don't know how to. Played the all-time universal game of blackjack where I win enough to cover my losses and have some over. John and Ai Kheng kept getting blackjack or twenty-one between the two of them and they practically clean poor Wil Liam out.

We decide to play in-between where I hit the tiang with a crash, twice. Sigh. I've never been really lucky at in-between. I've only got away once from in-between with actual winnings and not pure loss. This time's no different and I walk away with an overall loss of 3 bucks. The damage isn't too bad, I suppose. And today's just a warm-up session for the actual thing. Hehe.

I've found a pleasant, albeit expensive cure for headaches.
My pencil case of 5 years is facing a permanent retirement as the cost of keeping it employed is higher than the cost of getting a new and younger replacement.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
Its the season for it after all. Hehe. ;)
